Dear Reader

1. Hypnosis for Birth and Beyond

I am recently back from Melbourne and can now offer hypnosis for the birthing journey to assist birthing mothers to have a drug-free and pain-free birth. (Sometimes special circumstances dictate that medical intervention occurs, and you will be able to cope better in those situations too.)

Seems hard to believe doesn’t it, that you can have a drug-free and pain-free birth, and yes it is true. I used relaxation techniques and breathing during childbirth (too many years ago) and then went on to become a Childbirth Education Instructor, some 27 years ago.

It will take you considerable commitment and practice sessions at home and the rewards are tremendous for the whole family. You learn to activate your body’s own natural drugs for pain relief, enjoy hypnosis for relaxation and pain relief, and other breathing exercises, as well as many other interesting aspects. Call me if this is of interest and we can have a chat.

SleepTalk for Children Programme

by Joane Goulding

Fortunately, God was shining on me, and the SleepTalk for Children Programme (c) Joane Goulding, was held the same weekend in Melbourne. I am required to have 5 case-studies done with 5 parents of children prior to December 6, when I go back to Melbourne for Part 2, so if you have a child who has had some challenges and you would like to learn an easy but consistent and regular addition to incorporate into your son or daughter’s bedtime routine, then please call me to participate, ASAP.

Also, feel free to forward this email on to friends or family who have a child who is having problems, and get them to call me on 07 3040 2322.

Other Interesting Tidbits

Please accept my apologies in advance for my grunting, groaning and old lady noises if you see me in the next six weeks. I have commenced a body transformation programme which has me training with a group three times a week, and once a week with a personal trainer. Having done one session yesterday and now finding it extremely challenging to walk up or down stairs, I’m just glad I didn’t do any hand exercises or this newsletter wouldn’t be happening!! Funny how some people find it highly amusing… Ah well, at least by Christmas I’ll be slim, taut and terrifically energetic! And then, I want to maintain it.

All empathetic comments shall be gratefully received, along with offers of massage, and bathtubs for long soaks to ease these aching muscles. Yep, you guessed it, no bathtub at my place.

What else? I’m supposed to be coffee free and alcohol free for 5 days out of 7 for both…. I do enjoy my one glass of wine a few times a week and my one cup of coffee a day… but, needs must. I’ll just finish this cup I made and I especially bought trim milk for it too.

Massage Offer…

Speaking of massages, my wonderful hairdresser Base 1 in Adelaide St in the city, has a special offer of 1.5 hrs massage for the tiny sum of $78!! This means that you are getting a half hour freeeeee, complimentary, no charge!!

There is a catch… a small one… you have to book in for the week of Monday 9th to Friday 13th November as this offer is only good for one week. Tell them that you heard about it from Narelle.

Call now, as this fabulous offer will disappear quickly!!  Ph:  07 3221 2273.

Book Review

If you only bought one book this year, it would have to be “The Brain That Changes Itself” by Dr Norman Doidge. It is an absolutely fascinating and riveting read on what is called neoplasticity of the brain.

It describes the brain’s ability to remap, to rewire, to fill in, to capture resources and direct them elsewhere, in the most incredible ways. It is soooo inspirational and it is an easy read because the author describes case histories and research areas in easy to understand language.

There is the story of the 64 year old man who had a severe stroke, who 4 years later was teaching again, got remarried at 70 and died of a heart attack after climbing a mountain, at age 72. When he was autopsied, the stroke had damaged 97% of his nerves and he should never have recovered, according to conventional wisdom.

There’s the woman who was considered intellectually disabled who healed her brain with brain exercises and later taught those with intellectual disabilities and they began to do well in school. And so many other fascinating stories. It is an inspiration and a motivation to rethink your own intelligence and that of others.

Master’s Wisdom!

2. Health Tip: Pumpkin & Mango Salad

Serves 12 | Preparation time: 15 minutes | Cooking time: 10 mins

Cook on a hot BBQ for 1 min each side, 1 butternut pumpkin (about 1.5kg), after it’s quartered lengthways, seeded, thinly sliced and drizzled with a light spray of grape seed oil. Remove from BBQ when cooked.  Then add 6 shallots (finely sliced) and 3 cloves garlic (finely sliced) and cook until softened.  Then remove and let cool.

Once cooked ingredients have cooled, add and mix with remaining salads in a large bowl:

1 head of lettuce torn into shreds, 1 pkt spinach leaves, 1 capsicum sliced into thin wedges, cherry tomatoes, 1 cob of corn (raw) – just slice down the cob to remove the corn kernels, and 1 mango sliced and diced.

Gently toss it all together, and prior to serving, drizzle with lemon juice, cracked pepper and a spoonful of sesame seeds and enjoy!
