Peaches n Kreme: Are they depressed?
Live It Up eNewsletter November 2011
Dear Reader
October’s gone, November’s here and the poor Queenslanders have to beg to get time off for the Cup. Did I go? No, I’m sitting writing this while The Cup is probably on right now!
My tomato plant looks like it has escaped from the Day of the Triffids. It is potted in a medium sized pot and sitting on the kitchen bench and it is over a metre tall now. I’m looking forward to lots of big juicy tomatoes and yes, they will be the normal sized ones not cherry tomatoes. My Afican Violet is flowering with palest pink magnificent blooms, and my waist line seems to be blooming too!
I’ve been quite active on Facebook which led me to write the post on Social Networking Addiction, so let me know what you think.
Were you inspired to do any spring-cleaning after October’s newsletter?
Regards, Narelle

2. Is it Stress or Anxiety or is it Depression?
Here’s a fictitious scenario to think about, and it is definitely not based on any particular person. Let’s call this little One Act Play:
Peaches n Kreme
Characters:
- Peaches, female, aged 37, works full-time as a trainer, prone to worry a lot
- Kreme, male, aged 41, works full-time in an executive sales position, tends to think he is always right
Setting: Peaches lives with her partner Kreme and they are renovating their home in the suburbs so they can sell it and move into a ritzier suburb. They have no children and have been together for 3 years.
Plot: High tension and drama of working, renovating, doing daily tasks and managing the finances.
{Anyone beginning to feel edgy here?? What will happen?}
Peaches is worried about how long everything is taking, how they will find the money to finish the renovations, her lack of sleep, her disrupted menstrual cycle, that she doesn’t have any appetite, and that she is not coping.
She feels upset when Kreme doesn’t notice she has washed the dishes, quite a trivial thing really and then she tends to over-react to situations. There are knots in her neck and shoulders and she wishes she could just relax, but instead finds herself getting upset fairly easily. She knows that she is too impatient, especially when there is a delay in the renovation.
She feels she is rather touchy and possibly even irritable… then when she and Kreme have an argument, she finds it hard to calm down. Peaches feels like she is using so much nervous energy just trying to hold down her job, and manage the day to day running of the house while Kreme just goes off to work!
Kreme feels like it doesn’t matter what he says or does, Peaches is touchy about everything! Every time he gets started on something, there is an interruption and he is finding it really difficult to tolerate those interruptions.
Peaches is finding that she gets more agitated the longer the renovation goes on, and is beginning to wonder why they ever started it. She too just wants to finish things and finds herself intolerant of anything that stops her from getting on with what she is doing, mostly because she knows that she doesn’t want to go back to it.
Kreme on the other hand, keeps selling her the dream and says some positive things to boost her along, but he is feeling frustrated too.
What do you think? Between Peaches and Kreme, are they stressed, anxious or depressed? What can they do?
Regards
Narelle
