WORKSHOP: Skills to prevent burnout
This interactive workshop provides information on burnout and therapeutic strategies for caring Support Workers to assist themself and their clients
Thursday 10 th April or Sunday, 13th April 2025 – 8.30 am Registration – 5pm AEST
Should I attend? This one-day workshop is for support workers, their co-ordinators, mental health clinicians, counsellors and psychologists who work with people with a disability. The workshop will address knowledge and understanding of:
How to prevent and protect yourself from burnout:
What is burnout?
What are the symptoms?
What are the causes?
How to prevent burnout with visualisation and self-management.
Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP):
Introduction to the nuances of neurological and physical communication.
The powerful impact of words and tone on emotions
How to read the visual, auditory and kinaesthetic cues of others, and utilise these tools therapeutically.
How to Sit with Emotions: often touted and rarely explained
Experience the peaceful power of this exercise during the workshop
Understanding and applying the visual power of descriptive language:
For calming and soothing self and clients
How to anchor your client or yourself to that scene.
A little peace of Mindfulness:
For grounding and trauma management
The opportunity to practise and apply the material for an enhanced learning experience.
On completion of this workshop participants will be able to:
Protect yourself from burnout
while being able to self-assess your well-being
Experience the peace of sitting with emotion
Understand the neuro-linguistics of communication
and apply it with your clients.
Prerequisite: This is a workshop for workers, and is not intended for carers unless they have trained in support work.
Presenter: Narelle Stratford, Psychologist
Narelle has 26 years’ experience as a registered psychologist, 27 years as an accredited Master Practitioner Neuro-Linguistic Programming, 24 year’s x DiSC behavioural profiling, 16 years’ experience in Sleeptalk (most suitable for parents of young children to bring about desired change) and she was accredited in 2000 in Triple P – Positive Parenting Programme.
Narelle has spoken nationally in Australia and internationally in Iran, India, South Korea, Nepal and New Zealand with presentations on Leadership, Trauma, Resilience and Communication. She is known for her professionalism, dedication, humour and passion for learning and knowledge.
Narelle is very experienced in working in remote locations and detention centres in most Australian states, as well as Christmas Island. She currently provides EAP (Employee Assistance Program) counselling and onsite critical incident management support to clients with a range of mental health conditions.
Morning Tea: Fruit platter, cake or muffin (gluten-free options) and all-day tea or coffee
Thursday Lunch: One of the highlights of attendance is the sharing of ideas over a collegiate lunch. Lunch is available at the Windmill Conference Centre at your own cost and food cannot be brought in from elsewhere. This allows the organiser to lower the attendance fee for you.
Sunday BYO Lunch: Please bring lunch for yourself and/or a little extra to share as the restaurant is closed on Sunday. The concept of a shared meal allows those with food sensitivities to self-cater, while staying on-site provides opportunities for discussion of workshop material and often generates thoughts and questions. The venue has kindly permitted our team to access the fridge for any required food storage. There will not be any access to a microwave or full kitchen.
Health and Well-being: To ensure a health-safe event, please bring a cardigan or shawl in case of cold air-conditioning, a cushion or back support if required and turn your phone to silent. Please consider others and do not attend if you:
- Show symptoms that include cough, fever, runny nose, and/or shortness of breath
- Have been recently diagnosed with influenza or Covid-19.

Cancellation and Refund Policy: If your circumstances change and you no longer can attend this event, please contact Narelle Stratford and request a refund no later than one (1) week prior to the event. A refund will not be issued if notification has not been received within this time frame and you will be required to pay for the event.
The exception to the above is in the event that there are insufficient numbers for a workshop to go ahead. If it is impossible to attend an alternative date, your payment will be fully refunded.
