Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

PTSD, as Post-traumatic Stress Disorder is commonly known, can effect people long after an event has occurred.  This is why, after a critical incident such as floods, fires, cyclones, hurricanes, earthquakes, tsunamis and terrorist events, teams of people are sent into the field to complete Critical Incident Stress Debriefing.

The debriefing helps people to talk about what is foremost on their mind, the “what happened?” or the “why me?”, or the “what on earth will I do now?” thoughts that may go round and round the mind.  By debriefing sooner rather than later, it allows emotions to be processed instead of being blocked or locked down.  Those locked down feelings may sometimes cause problems down the track.

I’ve added a page to the site where you may like to read more on the symptoms and treatment of PTSD, right here.  If you have any questions please do post them.
